LEADERSHIP SKILLS TO FACILITATE GROWTH

GROWTH MINDSET

FIXED MINDSET

Communication skills will be very important in this area for the teacher in a fixed mindset. The campus leader needs to sit down with this teacher and ask them to share their thoughts. The leader can work with the teacher and ask him what type of PD he is looking for and use that information in future PD days. The campus leader could also ask the teacher to put together a team that would work collaboratively to determine PD that would be necessary for the campus.

For the teacher with the growth mindset, the campus leader should be supportive and be a resource for them. A time can be scheduled, working with the other district principals, for him to meet with all the math teachers. Plans can also be  made to allow more time to be planned out during the year to follow up with him and for him to follow up with the other teachers on their progress with implementing some of the new research.

A teacher, seeking out learning opportunities, learned about new research regarding math vocabulary and asked his principal if he could have time to meet with the math teachers of all grade levels to teach him about the new research.

A teacher regularly makes doctors’ appointments during the monthly campus PD session because he thinks it is a waste of time to attend.
